Fire station vote expected in Mount Morris

Village of Mount Morris Mayor Harold Long reports that the village board is moving forward with plans to bring a proposal to build a new fire station before the citizens.

Working with the fire companies, the village has secured an architectural firm which is creating a current design and cost estimate for a building. The village is looking into grant programs which might be able to assist the project.

Mayor Long stresses that the proposal — in the form of the monetary borrowing and bonding of the village — will be put before the citizens as a referendum. The time and place of the referendum will be scheduled by the village board in conjunction with the borrowing — as opposed to waiting for the delivery of petition signatures which would force a permissive referendum.

Long made it clear that the village board wants to see direct participation of the public in what would be a major investment of the community.

Complete story appears in the June 18 print edition of the Livingston County News.
