Expanded Conesus Lake stream bank plan anticipated

At Geneseo’s annual town board meeting at Long Point, the board announced an expanded “Phase II” plan  for stream bank remediation arranged through the Livingston County Planning Department.

The board resolved only tentative participation, expressing caution because recipients are responsible in-kind or cash matches prior to delivery of the grant component. The application process will take two years and actual work would not start for five years.

Geneseo was not included in Phase I of the plan. Phase II will target remediation along the middle and lower reaches of Long Point Creek.

Conesus Lake Watershed Manager Don Wetzel urged the board to adopt the resolution in spite of the lengthy timetable. He noted that the remediation plan has 100 percent support of the property owners along the creek. He also reminded the board that stream bank remediation is a fundamental part of the Watershed Management Plan.
