Dansville woman walks in breast cancer benefit
DANSVILLE, NY — Last Sunday, Dansville’s Kelly Fitzpatrick, along with her friends and family, participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Frontier Field in Rochester.
The event, which is held during Breast Cancer Awareness month, is in its 13th year. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women.
The Fitzpatrick team that participated in the 5K Run or Walk ranged in age from 7 to 81 years old. Since 1991, the group has four survivors among them, including Fitzpatrick’s mother — who is a 20 year survivor this year.
Fitzpatrick and her team have participated in the event for twelve years. In their most successful year, the group raised $3,000 for the cause. “There can’t be enough research and there can’t be enough money,” said Fitzpatrick. “It’s a great cause.”
In addition to the Making Strides walk, some members of the group participate in other similar charitable events.
