Avon freshman makes state wrestling meet
AVON — Avon’s Bryce Mazurowski will be the Braves’ first state wrestling participant in 13 years as he received a Wildcard into the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Tournament Feb. 26-27 in Albany.
Mazurowski, a freshman, is 41-4 on the season after finishing third in the 189-pound weight class at Supersectionals and will be the first ACS grappler to qualify since Rob Hatch (1997).
Mazurowski will be the fifth Avon wrestler to ever qualify for the state tournament.
“We are all very happy for Bryce,” said Avon head coach Andy Englert. “It is quite an accomplishment, especially for a freshman.”
Amazingly, Bryce’s brother Austin, a junior, qualified for the state swimming championship at ECC in Buffalo the same weekend.
