3 strikes law for drunk drivers would rescind licenses

A proposed state law being prepared for the New York State legislature would permanently terminate the licenses of drivers who are convicted of drunk driving three times. The law would also apply to drivers who are found at fault in three accidents with injuries. Currently, even persons who regularly drive drunk do not lose their licenses forever and are given the opportunity to regain their driving privileges after paying hefty fees and fines.

The bill is sponsored by Assemblyman James Tedisco and Senator Hugh Farley. The legislators say that the law is aimed at curbing the activities of drunk drivers who repeatedly offend. However,  it seems unlikely that drunk drivers who are willing to put the lives of others at risk, would curtail their habits under threat of losing their license.

The museum, which is owned by a trust separate from Kodak, holds tens of thousands of films and photographs. “I have to tell you too, that I didn’t have much time to look around this place,” said Gere “It’s a beautiful physical place, but I was down in the film archives, unfortunately I wasn’t able to see films, but there are 30,000 films here in this place. The extraordinary still archives, which I just scratched the surface of the surface of. Amazing stuff.”
