Avon’s Mazurowski places second

Avon junior Bryce Mazurowski advanced to the semifinals of the NYS Wrestling Championhips by beating the No. 1 seed at 195 pounds. Mazurowski will wrestle Ben Perry, of Saranac, in the semifinals.
ALBANY — Avon’s Bryce Mazurowski lost his title match at 195 pounds Saturday night at the New York State Wrestling Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany.
Mazurowski, who entered the tournament as the No. 8 seed, lost to Whitehall’s Zach Diekel 9-3 in the finals.
He advanced to the finals with the 10-3 victory over Saranac’s Ben Perry in Saturday morning’s semifinals.
Avon’s highest place finisher at the state meet before Saturday was Marcus Phillips when he placed fifth at 132 pounds back in 1978.
