Livonia man trapped in vehicle after crash

20-year old Zackery Ripley of Livonia was rescued by firefighters Sunday evening, after his car left route 15-A and rolled over in the ditch. Although Ripley’s injuries were described as “minor” the car was so badly damaged that rescuers were forced to cut the victim from the wreckage. Police say that he had been returning from a long road trip and that fatigue may have contributed to the circumstances leading to the wreck.

Bellavia, Collins trade barbs

Decorated veteran David Bellavia and primary challenger, former Erie County Executive Chris Collins squabbled over the weekend over a range of topics. Bellavia was on the offensive, as he accused Collins of planning to close the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station and of refusing to meet Bellavia in public debate.

The claim that Collins is attempting to close the Air Reserve Station, stems from comments made by the candidate on Saturday. At a campaign meeting, Collins responded to questions regarding the fate of local federal facilities with a comment about the need for efficiency in government administration. Bellavia, who did not attend the meeting, said that this meant that Collins would seek to close any local facilities that were inefficient in his opinion.

Bellavia also stirred the pot with his request for eight debate engagements between now and the Republican primary on June 26th. Thus far, the Bellavia camp says that they have not heard from Collins. ‘‘Mr. Collins doesn’t want to face voters,’’ said Kathryn DeLong, press secretary for David Bellavia for Congress. ‘‘David Bellavia has spent 15 hours every day working closely with his potential constituents, while Mr. Collins has been out of sight.’’

‘‘The Republican voters in all eight counties of the 27th District deserve an opportunity to see us debate in person,’’ Bellavia told reporters.
