Rodriguez breaks GCS school-record
HILTON — Geneseo junior Gabe Rodriguez shattered the same 3200 school-record that 2011 teammate Ryan Moynihan shattered the year before as Rodriguez hit the tape with a time of 9:33 at last Saturday’s prestigious Gavin 3200 Race at Hilton.
The Gavin 3200 featured the top two milers in all of Section V.
Rodriguez placed eighth overall. His time set the state-standard qualifying him for the NYS Track and Filed Championships.
Ironically it was Moynihan who shattered the previous mark a year ago in the same race where his time of 9:39 broke Bobby Henchen’s mark of 9:45.
Rodriguez will go after the Geneseo school-record in the 1600 this Saturday at the Tanski Mile at Rush Henrietta.
Moynihan, a freshman at SUNY Geneseo, owns the school-record of 4:19.14.
Only six Section V runners in the past six years have gone under 4:20 in the 1600.
