Cal-Mum tennis nips Livonia

LIVONIA — The host Livonia Bulldogs took on a six-win Cal-Mum tennis team May 15 having lost their first match just last week.

In a close 3-2 contest, Cal-Mum got the better of the Bulldogs, who have now slipped to two straight L’s.

Cal-Mum’s singles team was led by Austin Willis and Michael Roll, who each won back-to-back sets.

Willis defeated Livonia’s Gabe Cunningham 6-3, 6-2 at first singles, while Roll downed Jake Bills 7-5, 6-0 at second singles.

C-M’s doubles partners Seth Meyer and Chris Scott also aided in the Cal-Mum victory, beating Livonia’s Sean Smith and Cameron French 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The story for Livonia was Jeff Julien’s play, as he rallied back from a 0-6 set one loss to defeat Eddie Whiteside in the final two sets 7-5, 7-5 to rally for the win.

Livonia’s other victory came at second doubles as Wansi Habte and Pete Sauter had no trouble against C-M’s Mike Johnson and Solomon Gominiak, winning 6-0, 6-3.

Cal-Mum improved to 7-3 on the season while Livonia fell to 9-2.

York 4, Hornell 1

Host York added their eighth win of the season with the help of first doubles Derek Dougal and Robby Perry, who won a thrilling 13-11 super tiebreaker over Hornell’s Jimmy Dagon and Elliott Flint.

Dougal and Perry lost the first set 3-6, but rallied back 6-4 before the long third set.

Eli Carney, Alex Wolfson and Drake Wolfson also added to the York beatdown, easily winning each of their two sets.

Carney’s 6-1, 6-2 victory over Hornell’s Dario Bogojevic came at first singles.

The lone Hornell victory cam e from their second doubles team, Gage Harrison and Kerrigan Lisi, who beat Dennis Thomas and Tyler Hussey 6-0, 6-1.
