An 18-year-old from Nunda was arrested Saturday for Felony DWI under the state’s Leandra Law.

The Livingston County 911 Center received a call around 7:26 a.m. about a car accident on Creek Road in the town of Mount Morris. Sheriff’s deputies determined that Jessie Ellis had been drinking and driving with two minors as passengers — a felony offense under the new state law.

Ellis is a senior at Keshequa High School. He was the starting pitcher for Keshequa in the Section V Class C sectional final game against Geneseo on Wednesday.

In the vehicle were three passengers, 18 year old Tyler Bucci from Nunda and two juveniles. All of the passengers were treated for minor injuries.

Ellis was arrested and arraigned in Mt. Morris town court for Felony DWI, Unsafe Speed, and Crossing Hazardous Marking. Ellis was held in lieu of $2,500 cash bail and was remanded to the Livingston County Jail.

Investigating at the scene for the Sheriff’s Office were Sergeant Matthew Bean, Investigator Jeffrey Wiedrick, and Deputy Chad VanAuken. Assisting at the scene were the New York State Police, Mt. Morris Fire Dept., Mt. Morris Ambulance, Nunda Ambulance, and Livingston County ALS.

Voter ID policy among election issues in Mount Morris

A trio of incumbents elected to the Mount Morris Central School Board three years ago — Tad Rowley, Amanda Lonsberry and Ann Hunt — are touting successful on-track reform as they face two challengers — David DiPasquale and Peter Privitera. The challengers are claiming administrative overload, lack of transparency, poor student performance, and a need for a student resource officer, and are also bemoaning a newly enacted policy for school voter identification documentation.
