Geneseo schools rank high in Greater Rochester survey
Professional development and community support are credited as contributing to the high rankings given to Geneseo Central Schools by Business First magazine.
Business First recently rated the academic performance of all 67 school districts in the eight counties of the Rochester Area, based on four years of test data from the New York State Education Department. In this ranking, Geneseo Central School District comes in towards the top at number 13.
Business First also rated the academic performance of 89 public high schools and of 92 public middle schools in the same geographic area, based on four years of test data from the New York State Education Department. Geneseo High School was in the top ten, at number eight, and Geneseo Middle School was ranked at number ten.
“When I first became superintendent at Geneseo we lacked consistency in the quality of our curriculum from subject to subject and grade to grade,” said Timothy C. Hayes, superintendent of GCS. “In the last six years we have focused professional development resources on improving our curriculum and analyzing student results to determine where our instruction should change. Our teachers and administrators have embraced this work and the assessment results used to determine the Business First rankings are directly related to good teaching practice and good curriculum.”
Parents and community played an important role as well. “We are extremely fortunate to be a District where the community is extraordinarily supportive of the work that we do in our schools,” Hayes added.
“Our school families and school community helps us to create an environment where every student’s achievement is critically important.”
