Spanish owned RG&E to invest $414 million
Iberdrola SA, the parent company of Rochester Gas and Electric has announced that it will spend some $414 million upgrading power delivery systems in upstate New York. Iberdrola also owns New York State Gas and Electric, which will get $199 million for upgrades. Numerous upgrades include improvements to generation equipment and power lines, but the company indicated that it would not install “smart meters” in New York at the present time. Iberdrola recently used a $1.4 billion upgrade to its systems in Maine to install over 600,000 smart meters that monitor customer activities that use electrical power.
Over the next four years Iberdrola plans to spend almost $2 billion dollars in upgrades to capacity for the region. “Iberdrola continues to invest in modernizing its delivery systems and automating its networks in order to operate safely and more effectively and provide better benefits to our customers,” chairman Ignacio Galán said.
Bellavia and Collins continue to trade barbs
As the Republican Primary campaign wears down to the wire for Congressional candidates David Bellavia and Chris Collins, rhetoric is becoming increasingly harsh from both sides. “His current message today is ‘vote against Chris Collins, he’s from Erie County.’ That’s his message into the seven other counties. It’s all negative,” claims Collins in reference to Bellavia sponsored ads.
Bellavia has been outspoken in alleging various deleterious actions during Collins’ political career. The Batavia native has portrayed Collins, who is from outside Buffalo, as an outsider, and has also indicated that Collins may not be as conservative as Bellavia. “Bigfoot has been seen more times in Wyoming County than Mr. Collins,” he said.
