Thanks, from Groveland fracking forum organizers
By Lou Lombardo | Groveland
On behalf of the Concerned Citizens of Groveland I would like to thank all those who attended our recent Community Educational Forum on Hydraulic Fracturing.
I would especially like to thank town board member Karen Roffe for taking the time to participate. Unfortunately, for the Town of Groveland, Karen is a member of the town board of Leicester.
There were, in fact, no members of Groveland’s Town Board in attendance even though all received a mailed invitation to attend, as was the town supervisor, Jim Merrick, who was also not in attendance.
The committee was pleased with the presentations by John Holko, representing the independent oil and gas producers and his own gas company, as well as presentations by Jordan Kleiman, Associate Professor at SUNY Geneseo and by Bob Thompson, retired educator and businessman.
The purpose of the forum was to present information to the residents of Groveland on both sides of the issue of hydraulic fracturing. The presentations as well as the question and answer period and the responses to our evaluation form provided us with some valuable input on this controversial topic.
We will be sharing the results with the town board in an effort to persuade them to protect our properties and our natural resources from any and all heavy industry that may be attempting to operate in Groveland.
