Unknown burglar on the loose in LeRoy

Officials in LeRoy are trying to solve a rash of burglaries that have been troubling the village for twelve days. An unknown person has been breaking into unoccupied homes and stealing small valuables. Three burglaries have been reported since the 14th, when a home on South Street was targeted. Police remind anyone who sees suspicious activity to call 9-1-1 immediately.

Schumer calls for free whooping cough vaccinations

In response to recent outbreaks of whooping cough, Senator Charles Schumer has called on the federal goverment to provide free vaccinations for adults in affected areas. Western New York and Livingston County has seen more cases than usual in recent weeks. Whooping cough is not usually dangerous to adults, however, it is highly contagious and can be spread to infants and young children, in whom it can be fatal if not treated.

Former Bellavia staffer arrested for pot dealing

An attorney who worked on David Bellavia’s 2008 bid for Congress has been arrested for allegedly growing and selling marijuana. Authorities allege that Adam P. Rissew, 36, had been growing and dealing pot in the village of Medina. In addition, police say that Rissew was captured with an unregistered handgun in his possession. Although, Rissew has a concealed carry permit, New York State law requires the registration of all handguns, even those stored at home.

A police spokesman emphasized that David Bellavia is not connected in any way to the investigation.

The challengers are claiming administrative overload, lack of transparency, poor student performance, and a need for a student resource officer, and are also bemoaning a newly enacted policy for school voter identification documentation.
