Second half dooms Cougars
HONEOYE FALLS — After battling to a 14-14 tie at the half, host Honeoye Falls-Lima ran out of gas.
East Irondequoit Eastridge outscored the Cougars 27-0 after the intermission as the Lancers ran away with the 41-14 victory over HF-L (0-2) in Monroe County action last Friday.
Immediately following the opening kick-off, the game was delayed for over an hour because of lightning.
After Eastridge took the 7-0 lead on a Nate Corbett 20-yard fumble return for a touchdown, HF-L would rally when Ryan Quackenbush scored on a 53-yard punt return for a TD. Alex Obenhofer’s PAT kick was good and the game was tied at 7-7 after one.
Eastridge would go on top 14-7 following Jeremiah Ortiz’s 1-yard TD run in the second.
But HF-L would respond once again as Quackenbush ran in from seven yards out and Obenhofer’s PAT was good again as both teams hit the locker room knotted at 14-14.
After Ortiz scored from the seven in the third to put Eastridge up 21-14, the Lancers would get a pair of costly turnovers from HF-L and outscored the Cougars 20-0 in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Quackenbush finished with 96 yards rushing.
Jake Apthorpe led the Cougars’ defense with 12 tackles.
HF-L will try and get their first win of the season as they host Irondequoit Friday night.
