York girls nip Geneseo, 1-0

GREIGSVILLE — Kelsey Ayers scored off a Jackie Morgan assist 12 minutes into the second half as York edged visiting Geneseo 1-0 in LCAA D-III action Wednesday.

It was the senior Ayers’ second goal of the season. For Morgan, also a senior, it was her team-leading 11th assist of the year.

Neither team dominated this game with each team limited on scoring opportunities.

In fact, the best scoring opportunity came with just 30 seconds left in the first half when Geneseo’s Maddy Welch broke free and had a one-on-one with York keeper Alex Shepard. Welch ripped a solid shot from 10 yards away to the left side but Shepard made a great diving save keeping the game scoreless.

Shepard finished with five saves while Geneseo keeper Hannah VanWuyckhuyse had six stops.

York improved to 6-2-2 on the season while Geneseo slipped to 5-5-0 overall.

Geneseo’s Kennedy Abbott hustles after the ball along with York’s Janelle Andolina during action Wednesday.
