Candidates on stage at Oct. 17 forum

Candidates from the area running for state and county office will take part in a forum Oct. 17 at SUNY Geneseo to give voters in their districts a better idea of the issues and their positions in advance of the Nov. 6 election.

The college is sponsoring the forum at 7 p.m. in the MacVittie Union Ballroom.

Those accepting invitations to the forum to date are:

• Pat Gallivan, incumbent New York State Senate candidate running unopposed

• Gail Donofrio, supervising judge of family courts in the 7th district and acting Supreme Court Justice, and Rochester judge Scott Odorisi, candidates for Seventh Judicial Supreme Court District

• Randy Weaver and Bill Nojay, candidates for the 133rd New York State Assembly District

• Steve Sessler, Greg McCaffrey and Eric Schiener, candidates for Livingston County District Attorney

“Voters more than ever need information about the candidates who will making decisions affecting their lives and we are pleased to offer this event as a public service for our community,” said Tom Matthews, associate dean of leadership and service at Geneseo.

The event will not employ a debate format but candidates will make opening statements and audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions submitted to moderator Dave Gordon, associate provost and associate provost of sociology at Geneseo.

This event is supported by Democracy Matters, the Geneseo Student Association, the GOLD Program (Geneseo Opportunities for Leadership Development), Division of Student and Campus Life, Center for Community and United University Professions.
