Bulldogs pound Pal-Mac, 49-0

LIVONIA — If you took your seat late during Friday’s Section V Class B quarterfinal match-up between No 5 Pal-Mac and No. 4 Livonia, you found out it was over early.

The Bulldogs (6-2) advanced to the sectional semifinals with the convincing 49-0 shellacking over Finger Lakes rep Pal-Mac at Saunders Field.

Livonia led 35-0 at the half and 49-0 early in the third before the officials decided enough was enough and called for the clock operator to “keep it running.”

Five different LIvonia players scored TD’s including seniors Derek Bishopp and Josh Wester who combined for nearly 170 yards and four TD’s.

Junior QB Connor Pierce looked very strong as he threw a pair of TD’s — a 32-yard scoring strike to Jack Pope, and a 46-yard TD pass to Bishopp.

Kade O’Leary also scored on a 3-yard TD run while Brett Diener had a nice game with a 38-yard TD run up the middle and also two INT’s on defense.

Livonia emptied their bench early in the third and every player, including players up from Livonia’s JV squad, saw significant playing time.

The victory for Livonia advanced them into Sunday’s Class B semifinals at Sahlen’s Stadium where they will take on top-seeded and undefeated Geneva (8-0). The Panthers are ranked No. 4 in the state.

“They are number one and undefeated for a reason,” said Livonia coach Steve Girolmo. “Right now they are the best team, and if we want to win it, we want to beat the best.”

Livonia defeated Geneva last year 42-35 in the Class B quarterfinals.
