Miracle finish sparks Livonia
ROCHESTER — Dustin Ayers kicked a 37-yard field goal that squeezed through the uprights with no time remaining as No. 4 Livonia pulled off the huge 23-20 victory over previously unbeaten Geneva in Class B semifinal action Sunday at Sahlen’s Stadium.
Geneva, who was averaging 49 points per game, led 14-0 early in the first quarter but Livonia rallied to score 20 straight points to take a 20-14 lead in the fourth.
Geneva quarterback Shane Sweeney who was averaging over 300 yards per game through the air, was held to 11-of-24 passing for 155 yards and no TD’s.
Livonia was aced offensively by Derek Bishopp who ran for 141 yards and one TD and also added 85 yards on five catches with another touchdown.
Josh Wester added 100 yards on 19 carries while Kade O’Leary scored on a 2-yard TD run for Livonia.
Livonia will play the winner of East Rochester/Gananda and Newark in the title game Saturday at 3 p.m. at Sahlen’s.
