Geneseo men, women sweep SUNYAC titles

FREDONIA — Clean sweep.

The SUNY Geneseo men and women each captured their respective SUNYAC title at last Saturday’s cross country championships in Fredonia.

The women claimed won their second straight title and 13th overall, while the men captured their fourth straight crown and 12th overall.

The Geneseo women, ranked 13th nationally, scored 45 points to top nine other teams.

Geneseo put seven runners in the top 15, paced by sophomore Cassie Goodman’s (Midlakes) fourth-place finish in 23:29.90. Ashton Hughes (Fairport) took eighth in 24:09.57 and senior Brigid Heenan (Liverpool) placed 10th in 24:11.43. Senior Cailin Kowalewski (Fredonia), and junior Rebekah Steinke (Honeoye Falls-Lima) were 11th and 12th, with respective times of 24:11.74 and 24:15.49.

The Blue Knight men, ranked No. 5 nationally, swept the top three places with five top-10 finishers and seven runners in the top 14.

Senior Alex Brimstein (Webster Thomas) won Geneseo’s fourth straight individual SUNYAC title, crossing the line in 26:25.08, followed by seniors Chris Mateer (Thomas) and Tom Clark (Wantagh) who took second and third place, with respective times of 26:26.45 and 26:32.47. Sophomore Ryan Moynihan (Geneseo) was fifth in 26:38.75, while senior Tim Chambers (Baldwinsville) placed ninth in 26:56.64.

The SUNY Geneseo women, ranked 13th nationally, captured their second straight SUNYAC title and 13th overall.
