Rollins leads Geneseo soccer into title game

PERRY — When Geneseo was thoroughly outplayed on their home field during their 3-0 loss to Keshequa back on Sept. 19, many across the Section V soccer globe were wondering whether all the pre-season Blue Devils hype was just lip service.

While Geneseo responded with a 1-0 victory in Nunda Oct. 6, a victory that would give the Blue Devils the outright LCAA D-III title, there was still a big game in the horizon.

Advantage Geneseo.

Third-seeded Geneseo dominated every facet of the game as they blasted No. 2 Keshequa 6-1 in the Class C2 semifinals Wednesday night on the turf in Perry.

“It was a great team win, and a great team effort,” said Geneseo coach Chris Masters.

Junior forward Bryan Rollins netted the hat trick with three goals including two after the intermission.

Rollins also dished out two assists for Geneseo.

Trevor Mothersell, Connor Ragan and Jimmy Root also scored goals for Geneseo.

Ben Kelly added two assists while Mo Carlon, Sean Ledwith, Tyler Baker and Danny Cannon were also credited with assists.

Rollins leads Geneseo in scoring with 15 goals on the season.

Geneseo scored their final three goals within a 10-minute span in the second half.

The victory upped Geneseo’s record to 17-2-0 overall where they will meet another familiar foe in Marion (13-4-2) Saturday at 3 p.m. for the sectional title.

Geneseo defeated Marion in the sectional finals a year ago. This will be the third straight time Geneseo and Marion will meet in the finals.

“We know it will be a tough game and we will need to play our best game to win,” said coach Masters.
