Geneseo nips Perry on two penalty points
PERRY — In a blink of an eye the Perry wrestling team went from winning to losing their match with visiting Geneseo Thursday night.
Following Geneseo’s Mike Macauley’s pin in the first period over Perry in the 285-pound division, the Yellowjackets still maintained what would have been a one point victory over Geneseo.
However, the dejected Perry wrestler on his way to shake hands with the opposing coach, took off his straps — a mandatory one-point deduction and then threw his headgear in anger — another one point deduction — so instead of Perry leaving the gym with what should have been a 40-39 victory, they fell short by a 39-38 count in crossover action.
Geneseo won four matches by pinfall as Nick Breedlove (132), James Lukaszonas (152), Tony VanBuren (170) and Macauley all picked up pinfalls for the Blue Devils.
Connor Ragan earned five team points for Geneseo when he won by tech fall at 126 pounds.
In a rematch of last weekend’s LCAA finals at 120 pounds, Geneseo’s Robert Lukaszonas improved his record to 39-1 on the season with the 11-3 victory over Perry’s Andrew Hollister. Lukaszonas defeated Hollister 6-1 in the county finals.
Perry had six winners by pinfall including Corey Hollister (113); Christian Hollister (138); Zach Wilson (145); Brett Boyle (182); Kevin Proper (195); and Jake Kelly (220).
Craig Safford earned a 10-2 decision over Geneseo’s Cody MacDonald at 160 pounds.
