Investigation continues into suspicous SUV fire
The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office was to conduct an autopsy to identify the man found in the driver’s seat of a burned out sport utility vehicle in a park in East Bloomfield, Ontario County, on Sunday afternoon.
The body was found in a wooded area at Boughton Park shortly after 12:30 p.m. when members of the East Bloomfield Fire Department responded to a report of a car fire at the park on Boughton Road, State Police in Canandaigua said in a news release.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed a fully engulfed SUV about 20 feet from the park entrance. An adult male was seated in the driver’s seat. The fire was extinguished and it was determined that the man was deceased, State Police said.
State Police patrols then responded and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident which they have called “suspicious.”
Investigators from the State Police and the New York Office of Fire Prevention and Control are inspecting the burned vehicle to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s office was to perform an autopsy Monday to help determine identity, State Police said.
The results of both investigations will be released as soon as they have been completed and the appropriate notifications have been made, State Police said.
