Pottery Festival comes to Avon in June
More than 20 local and national artists are expected at the Western New York Pottery Festival next month.
The juried, clay-exclusive show, is June 15 and 16 at Studio Sales Pottery, 5557 East Avon Rd., Avon. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 15 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 16.
Artists will set up and sell their work but also interact with the public by hosting firing, throwing, hand building and other demonstrations.
The wood kiln will open at noon June 15. Mike Carroll will explain the wood-fired process to the public as he unbricks the door and reveals the results of the firing that will be taking place the week before the festival.
The School House Gallery on the east side of the property will have work for sale by regional artists.
A silent auction will benefit Chances and Changes, a battered women’s shelter in Livingston County. Bidding will start Saturday morning and close 4 p.m. Sunday.
A Clay Olympics competition is planned June 16. Vendors will compete with 5 pounds of clay on the wheel to throw the tallest cylinder and the widest bowl followed by a blindfolded and a handle pulling competition. The competitors will have 5 minutes to complete each task. The games will start at 10:30 a.m. and will go until 4 p.m.
There will be food by local vendors, local musicians and children’s activities both days.
Cuisine Culture will host the Pottery Party on Saturday night. The event includes a handmade cup, live music and one free drink. Participants include Rio Tamatalan restaurant, Eagle Crest Winery and Naked Dove Brewery. Tickets are available online at www.cuisineculturenow.com.
