PERRY — Miché Fambro, who lives in Geneseo and tours the world, will perform for the first time at the Perry Farmers’ Market on Saturday.

Fambro will headline the Market’s “Summer Saturdays”Arts Series, which begins at 10 a.m. and runs until noon.

The free Arts Series is each Saturday at the Perry Farmers’ Market on the Perry Festival Plaza in downtown Perry. This week’s theme is “Glories of Summer and Song.”

Fambro is that rare performer who blends stunning guitar work, remarkable vocals and a sparkling stage personality into a fantastic show.

He has toured the U.S. and Canada with music that fuses elements of flamenco, jazz, classical, pop and soul with high energy and a light-hearted sense of humor. Look closely, and you’ll see that even his guitar playing method has a style that is uniquely his own. (He plays upside down!)

“I play and mix a wide variety of styles, jazz, pop, folk, Latin and R&B. Whatever hits my creative mood,”Fambro says on his Facebook page.

Fambro performed a Christmas-themed show at Burlingham Books in December as part of the store’s weekly Burlingham Jam.

Also at the market, Linda Franke of Silver Lake will demonstrate tatting, the art of handcrafting durable lace with a series of knots and loops. Franke has taught workshops at the Arts Council for Wyoming County and enjoys sharing her craft.

Also, Val Gropp of Mount Morris will demonstrate the process of working with fiber — from fur and wool collection to spinning of yarn to finished product. Gropp uses a wide variety of fiber in her projects, including sheep, rabbit, llama and dog fur.

More than 15 farm vendors will present a variety of produce and homemade products at the Perry Farmers’ Market.

The market runs from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Nancie Battaglia, a 2013 Geneseo Central School Hall of Fame inductee, is exhibiting her photographic work at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts through June 22.

The show, “inPRINT…from published work…” focuses on Battaglia’s published photography in newspapers, magazines, and other print publications.

“This show is an intermezzo retrospective”, said Battaglia as she was hanging hundreds of photographs in the LPCA’s front gallery, “because the music’s still playing.”

Battaglia, a 1972 graduate of Geneseo, was born and raised in Geneseoand now lives with her husband in Lake Placid. She is the daughter of Sam and the late Joyce Battaglia.

A resident of the Adirondack Park for more than 30 years, Battaglia has been on assignment for some of the most important sporting and news events inside and out of the Park since the late 1970s, and is preparing to cover her eleventh Olympics.

National publications, such as the New York Times and Sports Illustrated, have counted on the drama and precision of Battaglia’s photography for years. Regional magazines, such as Adirondack Explorer and Adirondack Life rely on her photography to illustrate the adventure of living in a naturally beautiful wilderness area.

Battaglia’s aerial photographs of two seminal events, the annual Adirondack 90-Miler Canoe Race and the 2011 One Square Mile of Hope event on 4th Lake in Inlet, are exhibited in the show. Her crystal-clear close-up of 2000 paddlers forming a gigantic floating raft has appeared in dozens of national and international publications, including National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Sierra magazine, Canoe & Kayak, and this spring in Readers Digest.

Battaglia is exhibiting a huge photo of the floating raft, made famous by the two-page spread in National Geographic’s April 2012 issue.

“The One Square Mile panel of the exhibit shows the journey of an image from a sea plane in Inlet, to the world,” said Battaglia, the daughter of Sam and the late Joyce Battaglia. “And I guess the whole exhibit shows the journey of a working photographer.”

Gallery hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays.

After an exceptionally wet start to June, the National Weather Service says Western New York will finally get a break from the rain.

High pressure is expected to slowly move across the region from Wednesday through Friday. Look for plenty of sunshine along with temperatures that will warm through the week from the upper 60s on Wednesday to around 80 degrees on Friday, the first day of summer.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-30691" alt="Caledonia-Mumford Central School students turn the flooded parking lot of Caledonia Commons into a waterpark following flooding rains on June 13. Pictured are, from left, Joe Cappotelli, Rachel Hume, Sarah Williams, Jacob Andolora and Bobby Shoemaker.

The graduation weekend forecast — 7 of 11 schools serving Livingston County students have commencement ceremonies happening within a couple of hours of each other on Saturday — has a small chance of showers on Saturday and Sunday. The chance of precipitation is no more than 30 percent.

The summer sun and warmth will be welcome relief to many, especially those in Caledonia who founds themselves having to contended with flooded yards — and likely basements — and even parking lots such as the one at Caledonia Commons following last Thursdays flooding rain.

Numerous problems were reported on Graney and MacIntyre Roads in Caledonia, and several homes in the village did call the fire department to have water pumped from their basements.

Here’s the upcoming forecast for Livingston County from the National Weather Service:

NUNDA — An afternoon of laser tag June 23 at Running Wild Laser Tag, 9008 Pentagass Rd., will benefit the American Dream Scholarship through the Young Entrepreneurs Academy.

The event runs from noon to 5 p.m.

Young business owners Kirk Schrier and Josh Barranco started their businesses — Running Wild Laser Tag for Kirk, OMG T-shirts for Josh — after completing the Young Entrepreneurs Academy. They started the American Dream scholarship as a way to educate younger generations about what the American dream represents.

“In their eyes, the American Dream is all about being independent and starting a business for yourself. The more small business we start the easier it will be to get out of this recession,” said Johnna Schrier, a spokeswoman for the fundraiser. “We need to find a way to teach the next generation how to develop their ideas and start small businesses.”

Organizers hope their event becomes an annual event.

Schrier and Barranco went through the Young Entrepreneurs Academy as Kirk;s older brother had five years ago. His older brother, John Johnson, took the YEA class and started Running Wild Paintball Inc. with the help of his brothers, Ben and Kirk. Five years later, Kirk started Running Wild Laser Tag. Barranco with the help of Tim Fanaro started OMG T-shirts.

The cost to play in the fundraiser will be $10 per hour.

For more information, contact Johnna Schrier at 658-4595, email johnna@runningwildpaintball.com or go to http://runningwildpaintball.com.

The stream-fed swimming pool at Stony Brook State Park is scheduled to reopen for the first time in three seasons on June 22.

The pool closed at the end of the 2009 season due to water quality and clarity issues in addition to budget constraints, according to the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

“Generations of New York families have visited Stony Brook State Park to escape the summer heat, relax and have fun with friends and family,” State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey said in a news release. “The pool has been a staple of the park experience for decades. I’m excited we are able to reopen the pool for our visitors and ensure Stony Brook State Park remains a popular destination for New York families and visitors to our state.”

First opened in 1936, the pool was created by workers from the Civilian Conservation Corps, who built walls with thick and thin layers of stone to mimic the natural gorge and dammed the stream. State park stone masons recently rebuilt a fallen stone wall at the edge of the pool.

Budget savings achieved through concession agreements for the operation of several golf courses in the Finger Lakes region enable State Parks to reopen the pool this year. To reduce frequent short-term closures after rainstorms in recent years, park staff will proactively drain the pool if they see water quality or clarity issues increasing, or if a large rain is predicted. Staff will also erect informational signage to warn patrons that wading in the stream above the pool can increase water clarity problems that lead to closure, and will work with park neighbors to reduce agricultural run-off into the stream.

“This semi-natural swimming pool is the perfect summer attraction and one of the signature features that makes the park a unique destination for travelers. It is encouraging that the park has developed new procedures and signage to hopefully limit future closures. For the first time in four summers, the pool is sure to be filled with playful splashing and children’s laughter,” state Senator Catharine Young of Olean said in a news release.

The swimming area will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily beginning June 22.

The terrain of Stueben County’s Stony Brook State Park comprises hilly woodlands, a deep gorge with rugged cliffs overlooking three waterfalls and fascinating rock formations. 119 tent and trailer campsites are scattered in the woodlands above the gorge in the upper or south end of the park. Visitors can hike rim, gorge or nature trails, play tennis on park courts, or picnic.
