The Geneseo Bronze Bear’s new lantern
There is no icon more symbolic of the Village of Geneseo than the bronze bear statue holding a lamp post, affixed to the fountain at the intersection of Main and Center streets. This weekend, the bear will be getting a brand new lantern.

Ashantee Cottonwood In 1972 New York State established a catalog of what were believed to be the largest tress among its indigenous species. The winner in the Cottonwood category was a giant which is still alive today. It can be seen by driving a short distance down “Mill Street," the gravel drive on the west side of Route 39, just north of the Five Arch Bridge at Ashantee.

Rifle proposal shot down in committee
A proposal by the Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs to expand rifle hunting in Livingston County to include big game targets suffered defeat last week. The Public Services Committee of the Board of Supervisors voted to not advance the proposal to the full board — effectively disposing of the legislation in its most recently proposed form.

A missing Greece man who vanished into the woods and fields of Caledonia and Wheatland was spotted and apprehended last week, but investigators are still seeking answers as to how Bruce Reynolds, 44, was able to endure the cold nights and find food over a 16 day period, from April 15 to May 1.
