Hampton Inn gets final approval
After nearly a year of scrutiny by the Village of Geneseo Planning Board, the proposed Hampton Inn received the board’s stamp of final approval in a unanimous vote on March 3.

Youth string program to be silenced
On Friday of last week Geneseo Superintendent of Schools Tim Hayes informed the school’s string instrument teaching team that their program will be entirely dropped in the upcoming year.

A statue for Clara
A group of Dansville citizens plans to honor one of their village’s most famous and deserving residents with a bronze statue. That person is Clara Barton, who lived in Dansville from 1876 to 1886. During that period, Barton established very first local chapter of what would become the America Red Cross.

Dock law dilemma
The Town of Livonia recently decided it wants to get out of the business of defining and regulating water rights lines. A public hearing will take place on March 18 for an amendment to the dock ordinance. The amendment includes text modifications in the persisting part of the dock law, but more significantly will delete all town law involvement with creation and regulation of water rights lines.

An appeal by convicted arsonist Daniel Anzalone, who is serving a minimum ten year prison sentence, has failed in Appellate Court. Anzalone, 32, formerly of Mount Morris, sought reprieve from the determinate sentence imposed by Livingston County Judge Dennis Cohen in January of 2008 on the grounds that his conviction was not supported by legally sufficient evidence.

A bigger park for Geneseo
There will be an open house presentation of plans for expanding the Village of Geneseo’s Highland Park this Thursday, Feb. 25, at the park itself — in the depot building. The session will run from 4 to 6 p.m. and be conducted by Patrick A. Nicoletta of the MRB engineering group.

DEC and City to meet over Hemlock watershed
The Livingston and Ontario county towns and school districts surrounding Hemlock and Canadice lakes have received invitations to attend an informal meeting with the City of Rochester and NYSDEC held on Wednesday of this week.
