St. Columba marks 125 years
The parishioners of St. Columba Roman Catholic church are celebrating 125 years of faithful worship at 198 North Street in Caledonia. The parish is participating in a variety of events leading up to November’s official anniversary when Bishop Matthew Clark will celebrate Mass at St. Columba. Last week the parishioners played in a golf tournament to raise money toward the celebration activities. A Christmas ornament to commemorate the parish’s anniversary is being created and will be available for sale this fall.

Voters test out new electronic polling machines
Voters in September’s primary election will come face to face with the new voting procedure, which replaces the customary lever voting machine that most people are familiar with. Laura Schoonover, commissioner of Livingston County Board of Elections says lever voting machines are now illegal in New York State.

United Way campaign moves into fall, and a brighter economy
Though many people would say 2009-2010 was headlined by a difficult economy including job losses and increased needs among America’s middle class families, still the residents of Livingston County generously contributed $260,000 to United Way. Twenty-one local health and human service programs will receive United Way funding to continue helping those in need.
