The Livingston County News is about to get a lot bigger. If you go to your computer and look at TheLCN.com, you’ll see what I mean.
Your favorite local newspaper has added another way for you to stay informed and get the word out. Our website will afford Livingston County something new: on-demand news and community information published as it happens.
We’re still new at this, and there will be glitches to work out. I hope you’ll help by using the site to let us know when things aren’t working right. Still, we have confidence that our site will grow into a unique community resource that will dramatically extend the scope and diversity of The Livingston County News.
Here are some highlights of what you’ll find:
- Excerpts of stories that will appear in the print edition of The Livingston County News — some with extensive photo galleries you won’t see in print.
- Original reporting, reflections and multimedia reports that extend our newspaper coverage.
- Summaries and links to web pages of local interest. As we read the news and do research for stories, we’ll share the original source material.
- A comprehensive flow of updates provided by our county’s leading governments and organizations.
- The most complete community calendar in Livingston County. We’re going to scour the web for items of interest among all the county’s governments and service organizations. Our calendar system also allows readers to add their own events. You can also easily add an event to your personal desktop or web calendar.
- Totally free classifieds, where you can post items for sale, employment announcements, garage sales and odd jobs.
- Social networking tools that let you share stories however you’d like. Click our “Spread the news” button whenever you’d like to email a story, post it on your Facebook or Myspace account, vote it up on Digg or StumbleUpon or otherwise tag it in dozens of popular sites.
- Comments following every post, where you can jump into lively local debate. Unlike other sites, we will verify and list real names — so you’ll know the source of controversial opinions.
- An editor’s journal, where I’ll help you sort out all the features of the site, teach you how to be a power internet user, and share first-person thoughts about local issues and life in Livingston County.
This is just the beginning. We’ve designed our site to be scalable, and have plans to add new services every week. Please keep an eye on the Editor’s Journal and the print edition for more information.
We’re proud to have been Livingston County’s favorite source of local news for the last 20 years — and we intend to keep printing one of the state’s best community newspapers.
However, with TheLCN.com, we’re prepared to serve new generations of local readers and remain an important part of our county’s life well into the 21st century.
