Chancellor Nancy Zimpher, who took over leadership of the State University of New York's statewide system July 1, visited SUNY Geneseo and Genesee Community College in Batavia Thursday as part of her tour of the state's 64 college and university campuses.
Under drizzly, overcast skies Zimpher and SUNY Geneseo President Christopher Dahl toured the campus in an open-air electric vehicle. She also visited the Integrated Science Center and had lunch with college officials at the Big Tree Inn on Main St. before continuing to Batavia.
Zimpher told the Livingston County News she starting out with the tour in order to familiarize herself with the state's diverse offering of community colleges, technical colleges, four-year universities, graduate schools, and doctoral programs, with a goal of finishing up by Labor Day. She'll use the information she's gleaned to develop a strategic plan for SUNY and respond to the public in a planned series of town hall meetings.
The complete story of her visit will appear in our July 30 print edition, but our raw interview is posted here. In the meantime, you may listen to the entire interview or click on one of the thumbnails below to launch a slideshow.
