This year’s 8-to-80 Keyboard Kamp Concert and Recital took place Tuesday, Aug. 11, with a wide range of musical sophistication. Novice students performed tunes such as ‘My Pet Dinosaur’ and ‘Veggie Tales’ while Valentina McEneany, a six year kamp veteran, played ‘A Mozart Sonata Theme.'
This was the ninth year that keyboardist Geoff Clough has operated a free summer camp for aspiring young players with the generous support of Geneseo Rotary, the Good Neighbor Committee, The Children’s Protective Association and the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts. New to the kamp this year is acoustic guitar instruction provided by Steve West. There were 16 keyboard students, six guitar students, seven guest musicians and more than 50 people attending the event, held at the Morgan Estates Community Room.
Students presenting numbers on keyboard were Jocelyn Carlon, Ezra Finn, Abraham Rogers, Kyle Mendez, Annie Carlon, Gabriel Rowley, Chance Mendez, Grace Rowley, Necko Campbell, Bianca Mannix, Theresa Ingro and Valentina McEneany. The group includes three Liberian refugees. Taking lessons but not able to attend the recital were Ben, Sean, Bridgit and Danny Kelly.
Those presenting guitar numbers were Justin Campbell, Jennifer Steele, Abigal Campbell, Erica Steele, C J Ingro and Anna Campbell.
In addition to distinguishing herself as the veteran player among the students, Valentina was recognized with the Citizen Award presented by David W. Parish for dedicated involvement in an academic pursuit.
