Retired Livingston County election commissioner Gerald Smith has announced his bid to seek the Republican nomination for justice at the party’s still-to-be-scheduled caucus.
Smith’s announcement comes in the wake of long time Republican Justice J. David Haskin’s decision to not seek re-election.
In addition to his 17 years as elections commissioner, Smith has compiled an outstanding lifetime tally of community service beginning with a military career which included 1962-64 duty in Vietnam and 1965 duty with the Army Security Agency based in Warrentown, Va.
After his military discharge, Smith embarked on careers in banking and real estate. He held positions of vice president, branch manager and lending officer at several local banking institutions and was an insurance agent, real estate associate and investment broker with Youngs & Linfoot.
