GENESEO — With all the local soccer experts talking about Geneseo and York being the cream of the crop amongst Livingston Conference D-III girls’ soccer teams, it was Keshequa that took the first step forward.
And they do so by knocking Geneseo backwards.
Keshequa’s Catherine Mucha celebrated her birthday in style as the senior forward scored both goals as the visiting Lady Indians blanked defending league champion Geneseo 2-0 Wednesday at Don DeBadts Field in Geneseo.
“It was a nice night for Catherine and what a way to celebrate her birthday,” said Keshequa coach Pete Goho. “We played very well and our midfield did a great job with Rissa Smith, Michelle Montgomery and Amanda Gath really getting the job done.”
The first half was scoreless but controlled mostly by Keshequa.
Keshequa finally got on the board five minutes after the intermission as Shelby Hendershot booted a corner kick into the box and Mucha went airborne to head it home giving the Lady Indians the 1-0 lead.
At the 62:57 mark, Hendershot again was called on for a corner kick and she delivered once again to Mucha who knocked another one past Geneseo keeper Brynn Young to make it 2-0.
Keshequa keeper Morgan Howe recorded the shutout with six saves while Young made two stops for the Lady Devils.
Keshequa improved to 3-0 while Geneseo fell to 2-1.
