Bonnie Davis of the Avon Chamber of Commerce and Louise Wadsworth of Alliance for Business Growth informed the village board at its last meeting of a project now underway to create and publish a brochure describing and picturing “what’s great” in the Avon community.
Board members were ask to contribute to a list of “ten reasons to come to Avon.”
Such brochures have already been completed for Perry, Caledonia, Mount Morris and Geneseo by SUNY Geneseo students in Dr. Mary Mohan’s public relations class. The group which will be working on the Avon brochure are the same students who assemble and publish the college’s ‘Live’ magazine.
Wadsworth noted that 5000 copies of Caledonia’s very handsome brochure were composed and printed for a modest $1500 with equal contribution from town, village and local businesses (each contributing $25). However, this method of financing allows full mention of only the contributing businesses. Perry got around the problem by listing no businesses, while Geneseo listed all, but did not require individual contributions.
Students hope to immediately get started on the Avon brochure so as to have it completed and printed by spring.
