Oakhill Farm Bed and Breakfast a new haven to explore

The Oakhill Farm Bed & Breakfast (… and Barn), owned by John and Mary Mahlendorf, is now open for outdoor enthusiasts. The Bed & Breakfast is located at 8983 Oakland Road in Nunda.

The Mahlendorfs chose to open the Bed & Breakfast, because of the farm’s unique qualities. “We thought it would be a good way to make better use of the place and share it with others,” said Mary.

Those interested in visiting Oakhill will enjoy a private room with gorgeous views from each window. The room offers a private bath, kitchen, and entrance. A queen bed and twin pull-out are also included. Visitors can enjoy satellite TV, DVD, and wireless internet in the comfortable seating area. The private balcony overlooks both the water gardens and pastures.

In the morning, the Mahlendorf’s provide everything necessary for a continental breakfast in the room’s private kitchen – or on the balcony.

The room rents for $139/night (plus tax), based on double occupancy. There is an extra charge for additional individuals.

Visitors can also bring their horses (and carriage) and enjoy miles of groomed trails, a 72'x180' indoor arena, round pen, and obstacle course. Horses are not available to rent. Oakhill Farm is within a half-mile of the Greenway Trail that goes into Letchworth State Park. Along with the indoor arena, the Mahlendorfs are in the process of building a 40×100 meter outdoor arena. The project is expected to be complete and ready for use in the spring.

Stabling is available on site with fenced in pasture and run-in shed, just bring your own hay and grain. There is a $15 charge per horse, per night. Current Coggins and rabies are required. Day use rates for horseback and carriage are $25 per person, per day. Discounts are available for 4-H and Driving Club members.

In addition, the 88-acre farm includes a one-and-one-third acre pond with a dock, diving board, and row boat.

The entire area is also great for bicyclists, hikers, artists, photographers, cross-country skiers, and more. “Each season brings its own beauty with it… it’s not just a summer thing,” said Mary Mahlendorf.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling 585-468-5441. For more information, visit www.OakhillFarmNY.com.
