The New York State Conservation Partnership Program, funded through New York’s Environmental Protection Fund and administered by the Land Trust Alliance in coordination with the Department of Environmental Conservation, has awarded $19,893 to the Genesee Valley Conservancy for two conservation projects.

A Wyoming County Farmland Conservation initiative has been funded $16,893 to support a two year long partnership between American Farmland Trust, Western New York Land Conservancy, and GVC. This funding will enable project partners to assist Wyoming County in developing and implementing a purchase of development rights program. Once established, the program will permanently protect farmland from non-agricultural development.

A second project, awarded $3,000, will help establish the John W. Chanler Island Preserve (in Geneseo) and the Railroad Bed (in Avon) properties owned by GVC. These properties are open to the public and will benefit from entrance and trailhead signs, education displays, and benches.
