LEICESTER NY — Zackery Lubanski received his Eagle Scout award on Sunday, Aug. 9  at an Eagle Court of Honor held at the Carleton Bois Legion Hall in Cuylerville.

He earned the award on June 25 as a member of Leicester Troop 85, Iroquois Trail Council, BSA.  The Troop is sponsored by the York/Leicester Kiwanis.  His Eagle project was to improve the Legion Hall buildings in Cuylerville.

He planned, supervised, and executed a project to paint the outside of both buildings, paint the inside of the pavilion, have a new electric service run to the pavilion, and put in a new dropped ceiling and lights in the pavilion.

The ceremony began at 5 p.m.  The Master of Ceremonies was Life Scout Chas Streb.  The Troop was represented by Assistant Scoutmaster Rob Semmel.  The colors were presented by Scouts Matt Klein, Thomas Cuozzo, Mark Nash, and Colt Geiger.  The Trail to Eagle was done by Scouts Danny Austen, Joey Semmel, Jason Canaan, Jake Streb, and Scott MacLeod.

Special guest speakers included Leicester Town Supervisor Gary Moore who spoke about Zack’s Eagle project and Jack McAnany, an Eagle Scout and Zack’s neighbor, who talked about being an Eagle Scout and about knowing Zack.  The Invocation and Benediction were done by former Troop 85 Scoutmaster John Leach.  Zack’s parents, Todd and Rose Lubanski, were presented with pins by Zack.  His father put the Eagle Scout neckerchief on Zack as part of the ceremony.  Zack also presented Paul Loncao with a special mentor’s pin.

Zack has been active in Scouting since the age of 7.  He has been active in sports at York Central School.  He has earned both academic and athletic awards while a student at York.  He was nominated and earned the Livingston County Youth Bureau/Board Teen Recognition Award.

In the community, Zack has worked with the Kiwanis helping with their chicken BBQs, the Election Night Ham dinners, manning their food booth at Letchworth Park for the fall craft show, and pouring drinks at the York Field Days beverage booth.  He has also helped with food drives, the annual Leicester Village Clean up, and raking leaves in the fall as both a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout.  Zack is also very active in the York Presbyterian Church.

While doing all of this, Zack has also been able to get his motorcycle license and pilots license.  He has enlisted in the United States Marines, where he will report in October.  Zack is a young man that is truly giving of himself to others and deserving of the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America, Eagle Scout.
