GENESEO — For the past 10 years, the Livingston/Genesee Cross-Country title went through Honeoye Falls-Lima.

That destination has changed.

With HF-L leaving for Monroe County, the Geneseo boys and girls pulled off the perfecto Tuesday as they finished the regular season with unbeaten 21-0 records, finishing a combined 42-0 on the season.

Both the boys and girls defeated Livonia and Mount Morris Tuesday on Geneseo’s Senior Day to stay perfect on the season.

The Geneseo girls defeated Livonia, 22-33, while the boys downed the Bulldogs, 21-38.

The Livonia girls had entered the meet undefeated as well but settled for a 20-1 overall record.

“Give credit to (Livonia coaches) Dave Crabb and Jim Lynch, they had their kids fired up,” said Geneseo coach Mike Garger. “Livonia was beating our girls late in the race and thankfully we had a few girls rally. They were undefeated for a reason.”

Winning the girls’ race was Geneseo senior Emily Ingalls with a time of 21:43, just seven seconds ahead of teammate and runner-up Casey Emerson (21:50).

Geneseo’s Kristen Wiezel rallied late to place third in 22:09 while Livonia eighth-grader Audrey Redman was fourth in 22:13.

Livonia’s Sarah Warner was fifth in 23:11 while Geneseo’s Leah Moreland was sixth (23:12).

“The Redman girl stepped up and ran out of her mind,” said coach Garger. “She really gave them a spark.”

Geneseo junior Ryan Moynihan proved why he is a serious contender for a state medal as he won the boys race with a time of 17:37, easily outdistancing himself from Mount Morris senior Alex Chichester (17:59), was placed second.

Geneseo freshman Gabe Rodriguez was third in 18:14 while teammate Evan Magnussen, a junior, was fourth in 18:34.

Livonia’s top finisher for the boys was Nick Rees, who placed fifth in 19-flat.

The victory gave Geneseo the ultimate honor of finishing both the boys and girls season perfect.

“It truly is an honor to assume that mantle from HF-L,” said coach Garger.
“To be the first program in the post-HF-L era to step into that role is a great accomplishment. Now we’re hoping to do what HF-L does and get both teams to states.”

Geneseo junior Ryan Moynihan won the boys' race by 22 seconds over runner-up Alex Chichester.

It’s a shame that Livonia’s top runner was hurt for this meet.
