William Smith for Sparta Town Board

SPARTA, NY — William Smith is the other incumbent Republican seeking re-election to the Sparta Town Board. William and his wife Jenne have lived in Sparta since 1992, having come from Dansville.

Smith is retired from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, for which he still works part-time. He has been with the Sheriff’s Department for 34 years, of which 27 of those years were full time. Jenne is a teacher at Geneseo Central and has authored books on horse training.

Smith has been a member of the Sparta Fire Department since 2001 and previously was in the Dansville Fire Department. He is a Livingston County Deputy Fire Coordinator and also a 4-H leader.

Smith is seeking his third elected term of office. He served his first year on the town board in 2001 as an appointee and then was elected to two four year terms. Smith notes that the board has successfully acquired grant funds for remodeling court facilities in the community center in Scottsburg.

As a councilman in a small rural township, Smith summarizes his duties: “We try to keep the taxes down and keep the roads going.”
