There are mainstays in every community that are critical to its vitality and their popularity is usually very connected to the familiar faces that greet their regular visitors. Such is the case with the Caledonia Library, which recently underwent a face change with the retirements of Kathy Hartness, who served as librarian for nearly 30 years and library assistant Judy Adams.
Without skipping a beat, two new faces at the circulation counter, Librarian Renate Goff and clerk Sadie O’Deay, have stepped into their positions and connecting with patrons as though they’d been there all along.
Goff says it is connecting with the patrons and the community that attracted her to the library job. “ I like the idea of working with the community and because this is a small, comfortable library, I'm able to build a great relationship with the members of our community,” she commented.
In choosing new materials, Goff turns to the bestseller lists and the more
popular genres like mystery and romance. The library also has regular, popular authors whose new works are always on hand.
O’Deay was born in Los Angles, California and raised in a small towns in Colorado and Pennsylvania. Wanting to find a similar place in Western New York to call home, she found Caledonia fit perfectly. She moved here two years ago and worked in the literature department of the Rochester Public Library. She olds a bachelor’s degree in English from Penn State University and put her keen eye for grammar to work as proofreader.
