DANSVILLE, NY — The Dansville Police Department is readying itself for a switch to the state-mandated live scan fingerprinting machine.
The changeover is expected to take place at the beginning of the year. Currently, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department is the only department in the county with the $35,000 machine.
With the police department having to transport criminals to Geneseo in the near future (for fingerprinting), they have already begun bracing themselves for the additional cost.
While they have looked into the possibility of partnering with the school district to purchase one of the machines, it is not feasible.
The machine is designed primarily for criminal prints and cannot be used to fingerprint those working in the education field. As a result, the department is looking at other means of revenue sharing.
