CALEDONIA — If the Avon girls’ basketball team expects to continue the same winning ways of the past several years — they will need players like Katie Sattora to step up.
And if Tuesday night was any indication, Sattora and the Lady Braves will be just fine.
The junior shooting guard scored a team-high 13 points with five rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots as visiting Avon got the 41-35 victory over Cal-Mum in Livingston D-II action.
Cal-Mum led 10-6 after one and 13-12 at the half in a game that saw more than its share of turnovers.
A 15-8 Avon run in the third period gave the Lady Braves the 27-21 advantage heading into the final period.
Senior center Jill Emmighausen netted nine points while grabbing 11 rebounds with three blocks while junior guard Danielle Sancilio contributed six points with five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Senior forward Emily Savino added six points while senior forward Carrie Pfluke contributed five points, seven rebounds and two steals for the Lady Braves, who improved to 2-2 on the season.
Senior forward Melanie Johnson led Cal-Mum with a game-high 15 points while Kelly Jo Stein and Jane Schweichler had six and five points respectively. Emily Wade added three points and nine rebounds for the Lady Raiders, who fell to 3-2.
