CALEDONIA, NY — It’s getting cold outside and Cal-Mum’s Sparkling 4-H Stars are spreading a little warmth in the community.

The girls made several fleece scarves and donated them to Focus On The Children, an agency that assists children and families in Livingston County.

Crissa Feenstra, case manager for FOTC, came to a 4-H meeting to collect the scarves and thank the girls for their thoughtfulness.

Each of the girls selected a fleece pattern to make the scarf. The variety included stripes, horses, flowers, peace signs, Snoopy and solids. The girls really enjoyed this project because they liked the fact that they could make the scarf all by themselves but also because they understood that it would help to keep a child warm this winter.

“I chose the turtles pattern because I liked the patterns on their shells,” said Laura Wilcox.

“I love horses, they are my favorite animal so I chose to make a scarf with horses on it,” Sarah Murray explained.

Hollie Johnson thinks the scarves are cute so she was sure that other kids would like them too.

Julie Pettis liked the project because it was easy to do as it involved only cutting and tying knots in the fringe.

“It’s fun helping someone else,” says Meghan Carpenter. Her sister Makayla agrees, “It’s exciting.”

Feenstra plans to add the scarves to the Christmas packages that will be donated to dozens of families in the county. Homemade items like these are especially appreciated by the families who receive the gift packages, Feenstra said.

Cal-Mum’s Sparkling 4-H Stars include Makakyla Carpenter, Meghan Carpenter, Lindsey Coniber, Tatianna Fahrer, Autumn Jeffery, Hollie Johnson, Amanda Murray, Sarah Murray, Julia Pettis and Laura Wilcox.
