GENESEO, NY — Trustee Tom LaGrou, assisted by village insurance agent Andrew Chanler, has submitted a proposal which would provide scrutiny, including provisions for background checks, on persons involved in village-sanctioned sports leagues and recreational activities.
It was suggested that this form be supplemented with a basic description of the particular program and thereby serve as a means for the village to keep track of the activity and provide criteria as to whether it will fall under the village’s insurance umbrella.
LaGrou noted that, if the village opts to not insure a particular league, “it will not be a deal breaker.” That is, the activity will probably be able to self-insure itself, since the insurance typically costs only a few hundred dollars, and is not beyond the means of the organizers and participants to cover.
