VIllage of Geneseo tourism efforts touted

GENESEO,NY — Speaking for the town-village Geneseo Tourism organization, Arlene Somerville and Louise Wadsworth put in an early request to the Geneseo Village Board for a $4,000 contribution from the 2010-11 fiscal year budget.

Somerville and Wadsworth answered the question ‘Why fund tourism?’ with a thorough description of the organization’s efforts to date and plans for 2010.

The tourism website is “a major resource; the most cutting edge and up-to-date in two counties” used by both visitors and residents, according to Wadsworth.

October saw 10,600 visits with the business directory, calendar of events, where to shop, to stay, to eat and what to do being the most popular sites, in that order.

Geneseo Tourism also prints and distributes 10,000 brochures annually. 2010 will see a design change with less text and a book-type format. The brochure contains a business directory, map, signature events description and sections on village, valley and college.

Tourism conducts events promoting college student and parent awareness including an information fair and R.A. ‘introduction to Main Street.’ In 2010 the organization also plans to assist the Art Strolls.
