To Supervisor Eric Gott and members of the Livonia Town Board:
After reviewing your ill conceived request to rescind the heart of the Town of Livonia’s Dock Law I believe you are placing in jeopardy the ability of over 1,000 Livonia lake property owners to utilize their lake front in an organized, predictable, protected and peaceful manner.
Buckling under to a bully is a cowards way out at best and at worst a gross dereliction of governing responsibility.
By shirking your duty as elected officials to protect the residents of the Town of Livonia, your action is the equivalent of canceling the insurance policies of a thousand of your towns lakeside property owners.
A great many people from each of the lake towns have worked very hard over the past twenty years to transform a lawless lakefront situation to an organized peaceful state that protects the rights of all lakeside property owners.
The current dock laws have been overwhelmingly received and respected by the majority of lake residents. This is no time to throw all that away because of one self appointed bully who considers himself above the law. If you cave in on this, what’s the next one?
History has provided us with dramatic lessons that can be applied to your present situation. If the United States had given in after the attack on Pearl Harbor we would all be speaking Japanese now, or if the allies hadn’t stood up to Hitler’s bullying, German would be our national language.
You were hired to do a job by the citizens of the Town of Livonia, so it is time to suck it up, get a little backbone and do the job you were elected to do. Running away from adversity is for cowards.
While not a resident of your town, I do have a direct stake in it’s outcome.
