The late February snow piled high just at the right time for Cal-Mum school students. The heavy snow closed school on Friday, Feb. 26, which provided a long weekend to elementary students who were preparing for the second week of their PARP (parents as reading partners) project.

This year Cal-Mum’s Pack 4027 traditional derby saw 45 wood race cars decorated in as many different styles and colors as there are scouts. It all began on a stormy, snowy Wednesday night in February 2007. A group of volunteers from Stone and First Presbyterian Churches in Caledonia cooked the first “Wednesday night supper” as it has been nicknamed. Seven thousand suppers have been served since that night and on Wednesday, February 10, 115 people enjoyed a special roast beef supper served with love and celebrating three years of a successful ministry outreach program.
The universal pre-kindergarten lottery drawing dominated the February 9 Cal-Mum School Board meeting. In its second year, the UPK program includes a total of 30 four-year old students split into a morning and afternoon session.
