In the 1870s, wooden grain elevators began cropping up alongside railroad tracks in nearly every farming community. Mount Morris was no exception. The Mount Morris elevator, commonly referred to by locals as the ‘Beanery’, specialized in the processing of ‘dry’ beans that were cleaned, sorted by screens with different sized holes and bagged.
