On Friday, March 12, a combination of rain, melting snow and ice jamming of McMillan Creek resulted in flooding in the Dacola Shores area on the south end of Conesus Lake.

Sales of homes along the shores of Conesus Lake fell to half their usual number during 2008 and 2009, but for those homes that were sold, buyers were paying a premium price — on the average about 35 percent more than the same home would have sold for in 2005. Recent re-assessments all around the lake have jumped an average of 35 percent.

Our present dock law has been held up as a model law around New York State and has been commended by the Office of General Services. So why would the town want to eliminate a law that protects 1,100 lake front residences in the Town of Livonia?

The current proposal by the Town of Livonia to rescind the dock laws is a step backwards. One only needs to look at the hodge-podge of lot sizes, shapes and placements around the lake to understand the importance of zoning laws.
