Nine downtown Mount Morris business people have applied for a total of nearly $230,000 through the Microenterprise Program; this represents three existing and six new businesses. And it creates 22 new jobs.

Cheryl A. Gell 1954-2010

Cheryl A. Gell, age 56 of 700 Pine Trail, Honeoye Falls, New York formerly of Mount Morris, died suddenly Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, New York.

Visit the 1941 Historic Aircraft Museum, the New Deal Gallery, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Exhibit, and you’ve done the Greatest Generation Trail. County Tourism Director Lisa Burns remarked that these exhibits will “give a wonderful understanding of the Greatest Generation history.”

Mike and Renee Garrett looked at over 50 houses in the Mount Morris school district before settling on the right one.   They chose a historic 19th century brick home in the country amidst a stand of imposing black walnut and maple trees. After two and a half years in their home on Rt. 408, the Garretts will be moving on and new owners will be able to reap the benefits of all their hard work in restoring and updating the home.

While this may not be the case throughout the rest of the state or in New York City, I can assure the governor and our state’s liberal downstate leadership that we absolutely need our state parks.

In the 1870s, wooden grain elevators began cropping up alongside railroad tracks in nearly every farming community. Mount Morris was no exception. The Mount Morris elevator, commonly referred to by locals as the ‘Beanery’, specialized in the processing of ‘dry’ beans that were cleaned, sorted by screens with different sized holes and bagged.

Local elections will soon be here. Now some probably feel that there is little significance in these elections. Many won’t even bother to find out who is running for local office, let alone plan on voting.
